Pidurangala Rock

Pidurangala Rock, located just north of the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress, is a popular hiking destination offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including a perfect vantage point of Sigiriya itself. The hike to the top of Pidurangala takes about 30–40 minutes and involves climbing over large rocks and boulders, making it a slightly challenging trek. At the base of the rock is an ancient Buddhist temple, and halfway up the rock is a reclining Buddha statue carved out of brick and plaster. Pidurangala is a quieter, less crowded alternative to Sigiriya, offering a more adventurous experience for nature lovers and hikers.
